Coaching

Hello...this is Coach BettyC!!! I am a part of the fitness Revolution at Beachbody! One of my biggest drawbacks to fitness is that I have struggled since I was 17 to lose weight and be fit. I have tried several programs and feel I am an expert when it comes to trial and error! I started a long time ago trying out Shaklee products. Back then, they promoted supplements at a time supplements weren't popular. My girlfriend was doing Herballife then as well. Then I went to Diet Workshop, Weight Watchers, Weightloss Cinic, Cambridge Diet, Richard Simmons, Ediets, Susanne Somers, Atkins, Scarsdale Diet, and I am sure I left out a few. Many of these diets I lost weight but what I didn't do was really commit to exercising. I did off and on through the years have a gym membership and I did well....and then stop. So, what I have learned for the past 33 years of dieting and exercising?

When you are heavy, you have very low self esteem. You feel ugly, you feel people are pointing you out...."Oh, look how fat she is!" You feel you have no value. Why do we feel this way? One is because of the Health Industry. They fill the television with visions of beautiful thin people and try to say if you take this pill, drink this drink, you will be like us. Beautiful!! Successful!!! Loved!!!!

Another is the Media. They don't spend time on how successful a celebrity is as far as education or talent! They tell us how beautiful they are, their dresses, their makeup....they are sooooo perfect! And yet, many celebrities are not happy! So, what is the key to being fit and happy?

To find the balance. There is a lot of truth out there but you have to sift through a lot of junk to find it.

Simply put, to lose weight properly and get fit....this won't be easy....you will have to count calories as well look at your fat intake. You need to drink water..get rid of soda and limit coffee intake no more than 2 cups a day. You need to get up off the couch or from behind this computer, and move.

I have to say I love the Biggest Loser Program. It shows really overweight people doing strenuous exercise and they live!!!!We can do this but for us, it is a real challenge. People need to realize that it is painful for many to just walk down the street for 5 minutes. Your back aches, your hips ache, your calves feel like they are going to split in half. Big people are embarrassed to even go out doors or to a gym. Is there an option for them?

Yes....there is. You can join a group of people who are just like you. Some are young and want to maintain good fitness. Some are like me, reaching middle age and don't want to spend the next 30 years taking pills or visiting doctors. And...we even have Senior Citizens working out with us. In the privacy of my home, I exercise, I map out my diet plan, I even Coach others! Yes, I am still overweight but I make a really good Coach because I know what to do! Afterall, I am just like you! I am overweight and working out!

My fitness plan will be different from yours. I like the fact I can do many of the programs depending on my mindset. For example, Tony Horton has Power 90 and that is a program that gradually can build strength and muscle. But some days, I want to dance!!! So I got Shaun T's Hip Hop Abs and I let myself get lost in Hip Hop! Also, I had a back injury and I had to stop for awhile so I got the Total Body Solution to strengthen my back. That was awesome! You still feel you are working out but you go easy:)....Now, I would encourage people who have weight issues to look over all the videos. We have ones for kids and seniors as well. I like the Senior one(Tony and the Folks) because I could do that and felt I was so out of shape for all the other exercise videos at first. Once I did that, I felt I could do a lot more....Oh, and I do have exercise equipment at home as well. I have weights, balls, bands, etc.I also have a stationary bike. One more thing, the training in these videos vary. They have moves for people to adapt to if they cannot do the exercise. I have to do that because I am too heavy to do lunges or jumps. So you can still do these videos and benefit!

You also need supplements. I take a protein shake in the morning and take my supplements. My supplement needs will be different from yours since I am older and need more of this and less of that. But we all need vitamins, calcium, omega 3 fatty acids, you should see what I take. At Beachbody, I take the womens formula and slimming formula as well as the vitamins. I know...you are saying why not take pills then since you have to take supplements? The difference is the side affects. I would research any drug I put into my body and know what it does. Vitamins as well. Everyone has different health issues. Do not go off your drugs. I am not saying that. If you exercise and lose weight, it could be possible to have lower doses of what you take and in some cases, not even need them. Always check with your doctor before you make any decisions. Sometimes, like my doctor, they say we don't need supplements. I think it is funny. My doctor said to me I was in great health so I should quit taking supplements. They are a waste of money. Hmmmm....could it be the supplements have added health benefits????

So, if you are tired and sad because you think this can never happen...losing weight and getting fit.....think about trying one more time.

As a Coach, I am available everyday...I am an emailaholic!! I love my team and members...and I want them to succeed. Is this an easy journey? No...it is not. Will it happen for you...will you lose weight and get fit? Yes, you will. But you need support. Someone in your ear saying you can do this...you will be ok!

So my friends, lets get fit and healthy and remember, whether you are overweight or not, you are a valuable human being who deserves respect and kindness. Don't let the small minds of this world take away your joy in life. Look up at the sky, breathe the fresh air, listen to the music of the birds, and start living. Forget the past...move forward. I will be there if you need me!
